An Evening with Sipsmith Master Distiller Jared Brown

Over here at Sydney Cocktail Club, we've long been fans of Sipsmith's range of gins and vodka and when we heard that Sipsmith Master Distiller and renowned drinks historian Jared Brown was on his first ever visit to Australia from the UK, we jumped at the chance to procure an audience with him. Despite his whirlwind schedule, Jared was kind enough to take some time out to spend an evening with SCC members, and what an evening it was! Apart from introducing members to the wonderful tipple that is Sipsmith gin, Jared also enthralled everyone with his stories of the cocktail, and the prohibition era, even producing some historical artefacts to illustrate his accounts..we can now say that medical certificates for champagne are not an urban myth! Over superbly made Gin Collins and Martini cocktails crafted especially for members that evening by the lovely bar staff at Palmer and Co, Jared further captivated us with a demonstration of the famous throwing technique, which was how cocktails used to be made back in the day. We certainly drank, chatted and discovered a lot that evening!
